History of the Company. In 1936, while walking along the shore of Georgian Bay, Doug McKittrick came upon the local wooden lighthouse engulfed in flames. He captured this amazing photo with his father's Box Brownie camera, processed the film, and rushed the results to the Evening Telegram Newspaper. To his delight, they actually paid him 7 dollars for the eventful photograph. There was no turning back. The future of McKittrick's was cast.

In 1948, a shop at 375 Richmond Street in London was opened. The studio specialized in weddings, portraits, and school photographs. Eventually, cameras and accessories were brought in. In 1960, the business became the first independent retailer to move into Wellington Square, the first enclosed mall in North America.

In 1980, Wellington Square Mall was expanded and the name was changed to London Eaton Square. This allowed additional growth for McKittrick's and in 1982, the comapny was named "Retailer of the Year" for London and surrounding area.

In 1984, a second location was developed (no pun intended), at Westown Plaza Mall, now renamed Cherryhill Village Mall on Oxford Street West. After many years, the store and staff are truly a part of the neighbourhood at Cherryhill.

As 1989 approached, London Eaton Square was demolished to make way for the new Galleria Mall. On January 13, 1989, McKittrick's moved "into the sunshine" at the former 236 Dundas Street location.

In late 2007, the two locations merged into our Cherryhill Village Mall location.
